"Red Flags, Strings Attached"
This work in progress is my first wearable with full coverage, including shoes and a mask. It is a commentary on red flag behaviors and cancel culture in the present. In this iteration of work about red flags, I point the finger at myself and my own bad behaviors. The act of becoming aware of and naming each bad behavior is symbolized in the attachment of a flag to the body. The overwhelming number eventually obscures the identity of the wearer, becoming something akin to scales of armor or a thick hide of protection. Each red flag behavior is context-dependent and originates from a place of self-preservation in response to trauma. The bright color and festive references attached to flags are used to celebrate and elevate these hidden experiences of human vulnerability.
